The Stratagem Initiative is a student-led think tank cultivating and empowering the next generation of global-minded leaders. Founded in 2024 by Georgetown University undergraduates and rooted in Washington, D.C., we bring together multidisciplinary perspectives, fostering authentic learning, open debate, and creative thinking.
At Stratagem, we don't just study international issues — we turn our ideas into teams and products that make an impact. Our teams are dedicated to producing high-quality products that uplift our community and prepare our students for mission-driven careers in international affairs.
Through our newsletter, Stratagem breaks down the international events defining today's world for over a thousand subscribers around the globe.

Over the summer, our writing teams (plus some guests) stayed hard at work publishing their original analysis. Catch up on these publications using the link in our bio to learn more about China’s shifting statecraft, a standoff in the South China Sea, Al-Qaeda’s West African affiliate’s expansion toward the coast, the U.S.-Mexico trade relationship post-July 1, or how to reshape European FDI screening and chip security. Two of these publications feature guest writers that participated in Stratagem’s College Call for Submissions last spring. We were glad to welcome contributions from Evan Lynett from the University of Southern California and Summer Chan and Phone Min Thant from Simon Fraser University. Click the link in our bio to subscribe to our newsletter, check out our website, or apply to join our team (due 9/9). 🗣️ On April 13, Stratagem was honored to be joined by Tom Kelly, former US Ambassador to Djibouti, former Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, Senior Director at Raytheon, and a double Hoya, for a fireside chat! Ambassador Kelly shared his insights with 40 Stratagem members on the revolving door between the public and private sectors in DC, drawing from his experience in both public service diplomacy and government relations. 📌 Thank you to Ambassador Kelly for sharing your time and expertise with us, and to the Stratagem events team for making it all happen!
