What is Stratagem?
A New Way of Thinking for a New Era
U.S. strategy must take a holistic, interdisciplinary, and innovative approach to solving global challenges: a Stratagem. The challenges of our generation—the erosion of the Westphalian world order by nonstate actors, the rise of AGI and emerging technologies, the collapse of the Bretton Woods system, the failure of neoliberal economics, the decline of multilateral institutions, climate change, global health resilience, and great power competition—each requires its own strategy. Unfortunately, we face all these problems and a litany of others simultaneously. When designing The Stratagem Initiative, our founder chose the name Stratagem to encapsulate our goal of changing how our generation approaches national security strategy.

The contemporary media landscape is filled with stories about and veiled references to countries, organizations, institutions, people, and events from around the world. Most people lack the time and resources to learn the hundreds of years of history and foreign policy to fully understand what is going on. TSI members are students who spend years learning these factors and are tasked daily with describing international events using easily understandable language. We are here to help you make sense of today's world and recognize the ways international affairs impacts your everyday life.

We offer educational resources, expert-led programming, and opportunities to engage with foreign policy from any starting point—whether you're an experienced scholar or a curious beginner. TSI connects members with a network of peers, mentors, and professionals to help navigate careers in international affairs. We provide the tools and support to pursue impactful opportunities ranging from internships to scholarships, while fostering an uplifting community. Our goal is to promote critical thinking and empower the next generation to approach global challenges with fresh, informed perspectives.
